Order Adopting Youth Diversion Plan

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 is now open to the public. If you are paying with cash, please have exact amount. No change will be given. The court recommends you wear a mask when entering the building, but not required. Only 3 people are allowed in the building at one time. We are only allowing a maximum of 2 individuals per citation or filing. If you have more than two individuals with you, please have them wait in the car. We are still using social distancing, so please stand on the markings to distance yourself from others. If you have been or feel sick, please do not enter until you are well again. Prior to entering the court room, you will have your temperature taken. The court is wanting to keep our community and staff safe and well. Thank you for your understanding.

Duties

The Justice of the Peace for precinct two is the legal jurisdiction closest to the citizens of the precinct. A justice of the peace may:

  • Issue warrants for search and arrest
  • Conduct preliminary hearings
  • Administer oaths
  • Perform marriages
  • Serve as a coroner in counties without a medical examiner
  • Enforce liens on personal property
  • Deal with matters concerning foreclosure of mortgages
