Ellis County Is Now Offering Birth & Death Certificates Online
In order to promote public health while maintaining business as usual, The Ellis County Clerk’s office is now offering residents birth and death certificates online. Online requests will be processed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Please note the following:
- Birth records for Ellis County are available back to 1850
- If your birth occurred outside of Ellis County, but within the State of Texas, you will be issued an Abstract Record which is still a certified legal document
- Death Records are available only for decedents who pass within the Ellis County limits.

The Texas Constitution Article V, Section 20 states:
There shall be elected for each county, by the qualified voters, a County Clerk, who shall hold his office for four years, who shall be Clerk of the County and Commissioners Courts and recorder of the county, whose duties, perquisites and fees of office shall be prescribed by the legislature, and a vacancy in whose office shall be filled by the Commissioners Court, until the next general election; provided, that in counties having a population of less than 8,000 persons there may be an election of a single Clerk, who shall perform the duties of District and County Clerks.
About
Krystal Valdez was elected County Clerk and took office January 1, 2019. She has proudly served the citizens of Ellis County since 2009 as the former Chief Administrator for Ellis County Court at Law 1 and a Deputy Clerk in the Ellis County Clerk’s Office.
As County Clerk her duties include recording real and personal property, birth, death, marriage, military discharge, cattle brands, TABC and many other records. She also serves as clerk of the court for misdemeanor, civil, probate, guardianship, mental health and county commissioners’ court. Krystal currently serves as Secretary for the Ellis County Bail Bond Board and is the official Records Management Officer for the County.
Krystal has made the following her mission in office:
“To provide upstanding and efficient service to the public and judicial system. To secure and preserve the integrity of the court records maintained in the office. To promote and encourage a positive work environment. To manage and protect the collection of fees. To adhere to the Statutory and Constitutional duties of the office. To improve our operations and performance while sustaining transparency and providing updated technological service options at the lowest cost to taxpayers.”
Krystal currently serves on the Waxahachie Police Department Advisory Board, Waxahachie Foundation Board, and is Treasurer for The Miracle League of Ellis County. She is a founding member of Ellis County Women in Business, and an active member of Ellis County Republican Women and the Ellis County Republican Party.
Krystal is a proud sixth generation Texan and 25-year Ellis County resident. When she is not serving her community, she enjoys spending time with her husband Eric, and their two children.
